As for the 1.8 TDCi, personally I would avoid it. It's old fashioned, noisy and gruff. I understand it has some extra technical bits added to it to modernise it, but I would stick to the newer 1.6 TDCi. You could always consider the 1.6 TDCi 90. The 90 bhp model of the 1560cc engine does not feature a DPF.
Thanks for the reply. I haven't had any issues with starting the engine, just that it's in limp mode. I have just realised that I have been using forscan in demo mode .
UK/Ireland Location: Essex. Posted June 5, 2016. My wife has a 2007 Focus 1.8 petrol, and it recently started running rough, switching to limp home mode, showing engine system failure on the dash, and cutting out without warning. We had a local Ford dealer carry out a diagnostic as we had previously been stranded and had to be recovered by the AA.
